Updates

I write this update with a sigh of relief...Jacob's chest x-ray and ultrasound came back negative.  Since we returned from CHEO Jacob's screaming episodes have not stopped and Mike and I both feared the worst.  Jacob has had bloodwork almost daily since our return and his little fingers look horrible.  We escaped a platelet transfusion by a hair (which made us VERY happy) and his counts seem to be on the way up.  CHEO has decided to leave Jacob on his GCSF (daily injection) for 13 days this time in hopes that he will make the cut for his last cycle of Chemo next Wednesday...this is giving him increasing bone pain to top things off.  Jacob was seen by the oncologist here in Sudbury today at the Cancer Center and decreased breath sounds were found in Jacob's left lung and his abdomen was tender on the left side to touch.  Again the fear of the unknown haunted us as we walked up to the x-ray department at Laurentian (was the cancer spreading, has the Chemo damaged something?).

Thankfully the findings were negative on the x-ray and ultrasound and the Carboplatin is likely the cause for Jacob's abdominal discomfort and a new medication has been given to hopefully give him some relief.   I am hopeful that it is working...as I type this Jacob has been asleep for a little over a half hour which in the last two weeks is quite a milestone!

As we near the end of Jacob's Chemotherapy, the effects of the treatment seem to be taking a toll on Jacob and we are thankfull that he has only one cycle left....we can't wait to get our happy little boy back...
