I would like to begin this update by thanking everyone for thier tremendous support for our family on the night of Jacob's Journey (I am working on a page dedicated to the night--I will publish it soon). The support that the community of Sudbury and our friends and family have shown for Jacob and our family is beyond belief. We were able to attend the night and both boys had a wonderful time. Jacob still talks about going back to do more dancing! We are never sure what the future might hold for Jacob, but the trust created as a result of Jacob's Journey has ensured that Jacob can continue to receive life saving treatments in his fight against OMS.
We just returned home from Sick Kids and Ottawa, and I am happy to report that the bone leisons that Jacob developed back in April have improved on thier own! The leisons still leave the doctors at a loss for a diagnosis, but because they have improved on thier own their is a better chance that what is causing them is benign and not malignant. I can't begin to describe how this year has changed our outlook on the future and our everyday life with Jake. Nightmares about loosing Jacob are just that, but when you are faced with the reality and faced with another battle with Neuroblastoma....it was hard to think that we would make it to see today.
Jacob has been fairly stable since my last update. Since the last decrease in the ACTH he has begun to show a few signs of active OMS, but is still hanging in there. We hope that the most recent symptoms are a result of the VZIG injection he had to get as a result of an exposure to the shingles while in Ottawa. If he contines to increase in signs of relapse, we can repeat the Chemo he received in April and June in January 2007 and also add another oral chemotherapy agent.
