December 8

Well we hit our one year anniversary with Jacobs illness on the 6th of December....it was really weird...we have this feeling as though we have lost the last year of our lives...

We returned back from CHEO on the 5th of December and Jacobs last round of Chemotherapy (which was on the 29th of November)!!! Jacob received his last treatment with the Cyclophosimide last Monday and his protocol now calls for treatments to be every other month....therefore we are not due back to CHEO until January 24th and this will be for the IVIG only (2 months at home!!).  Jacob finished his IV antibiotics on last Friday morning.....Dr Murray decided to do a another bone scan (which was done on Tuesday of this week here in Sudbury) to make sure that Jacob's bone infection is gone.  If there is still "hot spots" on the scan then another MRI will have to be done to find out exactly what is going on.....we will know more by tomorrow as CHEO has to send the last bone scan back to Sudbury in order for the radiologist to compare the results.  In the mean time Jacob has been put on an oral dose of Antibiotics (which he threw up tonight---we are going to try the liquid orange flavour in the morning!!)....this he will stay on four times a day for the next six weeks unless the bone scan comes back positive in which he would have to go back on the IV antibiotics for another 6 weeks (please pray we don't have to do this!!).

Although still very nauseous Jacob is doing fairly well....he has been put on Lasix as well as a blood pressure medication to control his high blood pressure which is caused by the prenisone.  We have to monitor his blood pressure twice a day to make sure that it doesn't get too high....so far so good!!  Jacob has lost a little weight and now looks a little more comfortable with the Lasix!!!  The dose of Prednisone he is on has been cut in half which is making him a little irritable which we are hoping will subside in a week or so....

We are looking forward to Christmas at home this year with the boys and all of our family.....I will keep the website updated (sorry for the delay this time!!)...

December 14

We checked our e-mail on Sunday and with great sadness we read a note from our friends in Pembrooke who had written us to let us know about the passing of little Erica on Saturday afternoon after her fight with Leukemia for the last 10 months.  Please pray for her family to help them through this horrible time in thier lives......I can not imagine the pain they are feeling.....

Jacob was at the cancer center this morning for an appointment for blood work and a blood pressure check...his potassium came back low so he will more then likely be put on a supplement.  We also found out his MRI date which will be next Tuesday at 8am.  The MRI will confirm if Jacob will need more IV antibiotics or not.  If the infections is better then a 3 month cycle of oral antibiotics will finish off the treatment for the bone infection.

I will update with the results of the MRI mid next week....
