| When Jacob receives his Chemotherapy treatments his port-a-cath is accessed and he has to 'hydrate' with IV fluids 2 hours prior to the start of his Chemotherapy and also must 'hydrate' after the treatments for up to 12 hours to flush his kidneys. He is also given Mesna which is given through the IV when he receives Cyclophosphamide to ensure that his kidneys are flushed (the Cyclophosphamide can cause Kidney damage). With his overnight treatments he is admitted in the morning and is usually discharged the following day around noon. When he has to receive 3 day treatments we are admitted in the morning on day 1 and are discharged on day 3 usually by supper time after his flush. |
